Jimmy Yarborough, co-owner of Patti’s Party & Gift in San Angelo, Tex., described this season as slightly disappointing despite an increase in sales. “We were up 4 percent over last year, but I still feel like Halloween was a little soft this year, because with the way we put together our pricing structure, inventory and marketing I was expecting more like 15 percent.” He noticed strong sales in accessories, including hosiery, undergarments and shoes. “We [also] did really well with superheros and Flintstone characters. I bought really heavy [in the Flintstone characters] and thought I had too much, but they really sold out.” Leg Avenue was once again the store’s best-selling sexy costume brand, followed by Dreamgirl and Elegant Moments. S and M remained the best-selling sexy costume sizes. “I also sell a lot of 2X and 3X costumes,” said Yarborough.
