Jim Berg, co-owner of Twin Cities Magic & Costumes in St. Paul, Minn., said that sales this season were “good, not great; similar to last year. “We sold fewer sexy costumes than we had expected, but the category still performed well.”
The store’s best-selling adult brands were Leg Avenue, Secrets Wishes by Rubie’s and Dreamgirl, with these three about even in terms of sales.
In trends, “superheros were really big once again. “We also got a ton of requests for Jersey Shore, and vampires were still popular. We had a lot of requests for Lady Gaga, [especially since] there was a Lady Gaga concert here in August. [However,] there are also a lot of people dressing in a greater variety of styles, because more and more people participate in Halloween every year, and people want to dress a little different.”
Despite Halloween falling on a Monday next year, Berg expects a successful season. “Since it’s hitting on the beginning of the week, the emphasis [for adults] will be on the weekend, while Monday will be for the kids,” he said.
