David Laing, president of boyRio, thinks that although customers are still looking for value, they are not merely focused on price. “Our customers are willing to invest a little bit more to ensure a great fit and the best in high-quality material.”
His advice to any company looking to make a profit in men’s intimates is “you must remain focused on quality at all times. Otherwise, you will fall short in the long run. Your customers are your best focus group and you need to constantly solicit their opinions and expertise.”
He described his brand’s styling as “casual sophistication, reflecting the youthful energy of Rio [De Janeiro]. Our best-selling styles are our low-cut Brazilian swim models.” Sizes run S through L.
In terms of trends, he sees “an emphasis on sporty and athletic looks [as well as] an increased focus on product value—not just price, but fit, feel and environmentally-friendly packaging and materials.”
He sees “loud designs” as growing passé. “The wild ‘rocker look’ is overexposed and very dated.”
