According to Camilo Escobar, vice president of Great Deals Distribution, which distributes the Clever, Pikante, PPU and Candyman brands: “We have seen [some consumers willing to spend more for quality]; this has helped to grow our Clever underwear line, which lasts a lot longer [than many cheaper brands] due to its highest-quality materials and labor standards,” he said.
“On the other hand, our less expensive PPU line has grown over 50 percent.”
His perspective on those new players looking to make a profit in the men’s intimates market is “I think the men’s intimates market [...] is always open to new players who want to offer a different/better option; players who want to raise the bar. This kind of constructive approach benefits all in the long-run.”
And this idea of “raising the bar” happens to be the reason Great Deals Distribution entered the men’s intimates market in the first place, Escobar reported. “We saw an opportunity of making money selling something different to complement the traditional plain-colored underwear.”
The company’s best-selling underwear styles include style 0190, a mesh boxer brief; all 0001 thongs, and prints including 2038/5038 and 2043/5042. Sizes run from S through XL.
In terms of trends that are catching on the market, Escobar commented; “I would like to think that the comfort we find in the microfibers, and new silhouettes that break all the rules about men’s underwear, [are catching on].”
