According to Staci Berner, owner of Shapeez, the company sets itself apart by offering products “that are never copycats: I design products that cannot be found anywhere else. Additionally, we manufacture garments in North America with the best U.S. fabrics, lace and components. Finally, in order for shapewear to be really effective, it needs to more than just S, M and L. That’s why we manufacture our garments in nearly 40 sizes to ensure a great fit.” She described the shapewear market as trending toward “garments that are both pretty and functional.” In coming years, she predicts that “gimmicky solutions will fade away. Women want solutions that make them look and feel fabulous.” Since launching in 2005 with what Shapeez now calls the Unbelievabra—an underwire molded cup that also smooths the back—the company has begun to attract a smaller customer. “We initially thought that most of our customers would be in the M to L sizes. Once we got started, we quickly realized that even the smaller-sized ladies want a smooth silhouette and the other benefits of a great shapewear garment, such as breast shaping and support, tummy control, non-slip straps and comfort.”
