Q&A with Cassandra Davis, key buyer
Ted Vayos, BODY: Describe your store.
Cassandra Davis: We are a small, independent shop that caters to the alternative music crowd (goth, punk, industrial, rockabilly, etc.). We sell a mix of used and new merchandise. We have clothing for women and men, corsets, hosiery, jewelry, belts, shoes, music merchandise (patches, stickers, pins), and both music and horror movie t-shirts.
Ted: What makes your store special?
Cassandra: We always know what is going on in the local music scene, and are a gathering place for like-minded people. We also offer friendly service, and can give special attention to each customer.
Ted: What do you look for in a brand?
Cassandra: We carry Lip Service, Living Dead Souls, Leg Avenue. Timeless Trends, Tripp, Steady Clothing, and Sourpuss, to name a few.
We need brands who are affordable, have good customer service, and have the styles that suit our alternative customer base.
Ted: What are the latest trends?
Cassandra: Popular styles we cater to are Witch house, classic goth, steampunk, rockabilly, burlesque, punk & clubware.
Ted: Describe your price points and size ranges.
Cassandra: We try to keep everything affordable. For clothing, we try to not go over $100 (except for jackets and corsets), but prefer to keep it much cheaper than that. We keep our used items very affordable, anywhere from 50-75% off of the original price. We have a sale rack all year round and are constantly slashing prices on old merchandise.
We carry extra small to the largest plus sizes we can find.
Ted: What does your typical or average customer size?
Cassandra: We don’t have an average. They come in all sizes. When ordering, we try to seek out plus sizes whenever we can. We wish that more vendors would offer plus sizes in alternative/edgy styles.
Ted: What does the average customer spend per visit to your store?
Cassandra: $30.00
Ted: Describe your customer.
Cassandra: We have men and women. We have a lot of teenagers. The ages are generally about 15 to 50.
