On August 25, 2009, Chico FAS, the parent company of Soma Intimates, reported its complete operating results for the second quarter ended August 1st, 2009. As reported in BODY, the company previously reported a 3.6 percent increase in net sales for the recent second quarter, and an increase in Soma Intimate’s comparable store sales of 0.4 percent.
In its complete results, the company cited an increase in comparable store sales across its Chico’s, Soma Intimates and White House/Black Market divisions of 1.3 percent versus a 15.9 percent decrease during last year’s second quarter. Direct-to-consumer sales, which are not included in comparable store sales, jumped 46 percent.
Chicos opened four Soma intimates stores during the quarter, ending it with 74 stores compared with 70 stores at the end of the first quarter. Currently, the company operates 1,070 women's specialty stores in 48 states, the district of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin islands and Puerto Rico.
The company expects earning per share for the second quarter to fall between 9 and 10 cents compared to last year’s 4 cents.
