Mothercare Cites Strong Sales in 1Q

(Filed Under wholesale Maternity News). UK-based Mothercare Group, the parent company of retail brands Mothercare and Early Learning Centre, has cited an increase in total group sales of 9.4 percent in the first quarter ended July 10, 2009.

"This has been another strong sales performance with both the Mothercare and Early Learning Centre brands operating well across all channels," said Ian Peacock, chairman. "Our international franchise business continues to grow rapidly with retail sales up 32.7 percent boosted by the weakness of Sterling, and by 30 new overseas store openings in the first quarter. With new stores opened in Eastern Europe and the Middle East in particular, we now have 639 overseas stores trading in 50 countries."

Total UK sales were up 3.1 percent and direct in home sales were up 17.4 percent, also during the first quarter.

Among the products Mothercare offers are lingerie, sleepwear, loungewear, swimwear and many maternity essentials.
