(Filed Under Fashion News). On the evening of May 12th, close to 400 industry players flocked to New York City’s Grand Hyatt Hotel for the American Apparel & Footwear Association’s (AAFA) 31st Annual American Image Awards, hosted by “What Not To Wear” TV personality Stacy London.

This year’s charity partner was The Fashion Institute of Technology’s (F.I.T) charitable body, the Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries.

Former Fashion Maverick award recipient and reality TV personality Carson Kresley presented Norma Kamali, who is now working with Wal-Mart, with the designer of the year award. In time for her 50th anniversary as a “fashion icon,” Barbie won the Fashion Maverick Award, which was presented by InStyle Magazine’s Hal Rubenstein and accepted by GM of Barbie Worldwide, Richard Dickson.

Additional recipients included QVC for Retailer of the Year, presented by Bradley Bayou and accepted by president and CEO of the company Mike George. Wolverine Worldwide won the Excellence in Lifestyle branding award, which was accepted by president & CEO Blake Krueger. Scott Beaumont, CEO of Lilly Pulitzer, accepted the Spirit of a Woman Award, presented by Isaac Mizrahi, and Matt Rubel, president and CEO of Collection brands, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for his “legendary” M&A deals.

Other industry personalities of note in attendance included Robert Verdi, Dennis Basso, Judith Ripka and Jonathan Adler, among others.
