(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Despite the COVID onslaught, Italy based Calzedonia Group has rapidly grown its retail footprint in the U.S. to 56 intimate apparel shops since opening the very first in late 2016 in New York. The list includes 35 Intimissimi women’s lingerie stores and 21 Calzedonia shops (which offer swimwear, leggings and hosiery for men and women).
In early 2020, at the start of the pandemic, it was reported the Group, which utilizes a franchise model, had just 43 locations in the U.S. Internationally, Calzedonia, which was founded in 1986, has a vast number of shops, and could potentially use its financial power to add many more in the U.S.
In 2020 (the last year for which a company website lists totals), it had 4900 stores worldwide, including many under such additional brand names as: Intimissimi Uomo; Tezenis (men’s and women’s underwear and swim); Falconeri (men’s and women’s apparel); SignorVino (Italian wine shops); Atelier Emé (bridal and party wear shops); and Progetto Quid, an “ethical and sustainable fashion brand.”
Of the total number of stores in 2020, Calzedonia reported 1751 were in Italy and 3149 were in other countries. That year the company claimed annual sales of 1.9 billion euros (or about $2 billion at current exchange rates).
The U.S. shops are spread unevenly across the country, including (according to the company) three shops in California; one in Delaware; ten in Florida; two in Maryland; three in Massachusetts; five in New Jersey; seven in New York; one in Pennsylvania; one in Rhode Island; and two in Virginia. The list of Calzedonia stores includes two in California; seven in Florida; one in Maryland; two in Massachusetts; two in New Jersey; four in New York; one in Pennsylvania; and two in Virginia. —NM
