(Filed Under Adult News). The Trunkettes swim brand is selling its assets, including its licensing deal with Kathy Ireland Worldwide.
“We are looking for another swim producer to take over the business. Or an apparel company, not currently in swimwear, that would like to jump-start its launch into the category,” according to a spokesperson.
Trunkettes was launched in 2008 by Hilary Genga as a collection of swimwear designed to make women feel more confident and comfortable without sacrificing style. A key early combination included trunk bottoms paired with bikini tops. Later the line grew to include a wide variety of swim styles and accessories. Eventually the brand was sold in major retailers and boutiques nationwide, according to the owners.
Over the years, Genga and Trunkettes Swimwear have been “featured in an array of high profile media, including The Today Show, The Talk, Entertainment Tonight, Extra, and US Weekly. Trunkettes has also been included in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition six times, beating out upwards of 10,000 submissions each time to make it in the ultimate placement for new swimwear. An important moment was when curvy model Ashley Graham appeared on the cover on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition wearing a Trunkettes design in 2016.”
In 2019 the company added a licensing partnership with Kathy Ireland Worldwide, "headed by the famous former Sports Illustrated cover model turned business mogul." Hilary Genga noted at the time, “we could not have imagined a more ideal fit for partnership than with Kathy. Her strength, confidence and empowerment of women represent everything the Trunkettes brand stands for.”
The pandemic made 2020 a difficult year for swimwear, so Trunkettes has paused operations and is now seeking a buyer. “The acquisition of the Trunkettes brand and assets can deliver two compelling business segments: the original Trunkettes concept of comfortable swimwear providing modest coverage, and the opportunity to step into the Kathy Ireland relationship and the selling power of her brand. The company’s assets include inventory from both Trunkettes and Kathy Ireland SWIM Trunkettes; designs and patterns; the Trunkettes website and social media accounts; customer lists and contacts; and all advertising, marketing materials and celebrity, influencer and photo libraries. Seller is highly motivated.”
