(Filed Under Fashion News). Joseph Farel, former president of Empire Intimates and veteran of the intimate apparel industry, passed away in his home in Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday, March 16th, 2009 after a long illness.
Mr. Farel founded the Charlotte-based apparel manufacturing business, Trimline Foundations, in the early 1960s.
In the mid-1980's he acquired Empire Foundations, and moved all manufacturing operations over to the company's South Fork, Pennsylvania location. At that time, he also changed the company's name to Empire Intimates.
He served as president of the company for the next 22 years or so, retiring in 2007 when his health prevented further involvement with the company.
Mr. Farel is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Hill Grubbs Farel, their four children and three children-in-law, including Matt and Lia Farel of Empire Intimates, and 10 grandchildren.
