(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Gilly Hicks, the intimates brand from Abercrombie & Fitch, continues to “see meaningful double-digit comp growth with our targeting customer signing well for intimates and lounge offerings. We believe in and are devoting resources to this important growth vehicle,” according to Fran Horowitz, CEO of the parent company.
She added, during the conference call to discuss Abercrombie’s latest quarter, “Gilly is currently available in all of our Hollister’s globally and we are continuing to test various footprint options. During the quarter we opened one carve-out and six side-by-side.” As of November 2 the company operated 400 Hollister stores in the U.S. and 154 internationally.
In response to a series of questions from BODY, the company’s Kara Ferrara added that “We currently operate six free standing Gilly Hicks pop up stores, four of which are the locations we announced in July 2019. Locations include: Dolphin Mall (Miami, FL), Tysons Corner Center (Tysons Corner, VA), Los Cerritos (Cerritos, CA), Baybrook Mall (Friendswood, TX), Ala Moana Center (Honolulu, HI), Roosevelt Field (East Garden City, NY).”
Emphasizing the brand’s “target teen customers,” she continued, “we currently have roughly 40 Gilly carve outs across Europe, North America and Asia. We do not have any Gilly Hicks franchise stores.”
Gilly Hicks has had a varied history with the company. Abercrombie launched the label with a store in Massachusetts in 2008, and expanded the Gilly Hicks chain over the next several years. But, at the end of 2013, Abercrombie announced it would be closing all the Gilly Hicks shops, which, at the time of the announcement, numbered 28 worldwide. It noted in an earnings report in early 2014 that the brand would “continue to be sold via Hollister Co. stores and through the Gilly Hicks website.” But later that year an executive admitted, “we decided during the quarter that we would wind down that business in 2015.” Then, on January 27 of 2017, the company reversed itself again and announced it had “relaunched” the brand “in all Hollister stores across the United States and online at HollisterCo.com.” — NM
