CEO Azita Yaghoobian founded the firm on the premise that there are many situations in daily life where it is faster and far more convenient for women to change their underwear without having to remove much of their other clothing.
“Wings Intimates is a fresh, new and innovative idea in women’s underwear, and a necessary item in every woman’s wardrobe,” she told BODY.
“During the winters of my college years on Long Island, I remember struggling to change in my car, when going from classes out to the city for a night on the town and always thought there has to be an easier way than this,” she writes on the company website. “Later on, as a mother, undergoing a c-section delivery of my twins and a long and difficult recovery period, one of the hardest tasks for me was bending down. There were times I would ask my husband to change my undies for me to avoid the agony of bending down. I remember thinking again, there must be a better way. Then, watching my daughter go through her teenage years, at times needing a quick change of panties at school or at a sports event, I couldn’t help but think… I wish there was an easier way than having to take everything off just to change her underwear.”
The Wings panties utilize a W shaped metal clip on either side. According to company directions, “The best way to put on your Wings is to unfasten one side, wrap it around one leg” and then fasten it. “Then unfasten the other side and repeat on other leg.” The process can be accomplished while standing and while wearing other clothes. One user comments on the company website: “I used to be shy changing my underwear in the locker room. Now, I can hook on a fresh pair and unhook the bottom pair off.”
Currently the collection is only sold on the company’s website, where three thongs, three bikinis and a Brazilian cut panty style are offered. Colors available are white, black, pink or red, depending upon the style, and retail prices range from $24 to $38. “Our wholesale prices range from $13 to $19.” Small, medium and large sizes are offered.
Lace styles are 85% nylon, 15% spandex and cotton styles are 95% cotton, 5% spandex. “In addition to our current collection, we will have an all cotton line and a microfiber line at the show in August,” said Yaghoobian, referring to the upcoming Curve show in New York. “We are also adding XL and XXL to our sizes. We will also showcase our line of panties with expandable waist line.” Some of the new styles will offer a “fuller cut.”
“Our target market is the millennials who make up 21% of overall consumer discretionary purchases in the U.S.,” continued the designer. “We have a robust social media and online advertising campaigns on an ongoing basis.”
