Parisa Intimates: Cohen In, John Bowman Out

(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Paul Cohen, who has had an extensive career in the intimate apparel and footwear field, has been named to head up sales and marketing for the Parisa Intimates brand as well as private label lingerie he told BODY during a phone interview today.

Until recently John Bowman had headed up sales as director of corporate development for Parisa. He told us he left to pursue other opportunities.

Cohen has worked at several intimate apparel firms including stints at Dynashape Intima, Tefron, and as president of Ralph Lauren Intimate Apparel from 1996 to 1999. He has also worked as a consultant and advisor within the field for various firms, and was most recently working with Curvy Couture.

Cohen, who just began at Parisa this week, said he was “getting his feet wet” and declined, for the moment, to discuss details of his job going forward. He can be reached by email at PaulC@parisaUSA.com. The phone at the New York office for Parisa, which will be his base, is (212) 221-1020.

Bowman told BODY he is now working at his own firm, John Bowman Associates, on consulting and other potential investment opportunities in the intimates and apparel categories. He can be reached at john@jbasc.com.

BODY first saw the Parisa Lingerie collection when it launched at the Curve show in Las Vegas in February 2012. At the time it met with a “tremendous” reaction from retailers, according to Amir Moghadam, owner of AFR Apparel International, Inc., that owns and produces the brand. AFR is a large private label manufacturer of swimwear and lingerie, and also owns the A.Che and licensed Natori swimwear collections.

At the time of the Parisa Lingerie launch Moghadam told us he wanted to “create a line that addresses the voids in the market” with an emphasis on the full-busted consumer. The genesis of the collection goes back more than 20 years. Moghadam, who has been in the business even longer than that, created a line of Parisa lingerie in 1992 he told BODY. But AFR’s private label operations quickly became so extensive and time-consuming that the idea for his own branded lingerie was pushed into the background.

Moghadam stated that AFR operates out of 60,000 square feet of warehouse, office and design facilities in Northridge, CA.
