(Filed Under wholesale Activewear News). Shapeez reports that the launch of its new Sportee sports bra has been so strong — perhaps helped by the dramatic way the company chose to portray the bra in photos — that it completely sold out of its initial shipment. (But not to worry, follow up deliveries of the bra have already arrived).
The Sportee is part of a larger collection of bras from the Maryland-based company, all of which feature a back smoothing design and contain a “real” bra within.
An intriguing element to the bra’s immediate success seems to have been the way the company decided to photograph the Sportee for its introduction. In addition to the expected, motionless shots of a model standing, holding sports equipment, the firm experimented with a series in which the model leapt into the air, arms, legs and hair flying. One thing that clearly stayed in place: the bra.
According to Staci Berner, vice president and CFO, the Sportee is “a bounce free, back smoothing sports bra made from moisture wicking mesh fabric that feels amazingly comfortable without binding and keeps the girls firmly supported during any athletic sport or activity. It looks great under work out wear because it eliminates back bulges and, because of the molded cups, you don’t get that typical ‘uniboob’ look you get from most sports bras.”
“Of course, the key to a great sports bra is that it actually performs better,” added founder Staci Berner. “ So we were confident that the jumping photos would show that performance. And those images really have resulted in a dramatic sales boost from the start.”
The Sportee is constructed of moisture wicking Nylon Lycra mesh, and comes in white or black. Sizing is Small-A to Large-DD. The new bra is designed to retail for $79 and wholesale pricing is $39.50.
