(Filed Under wholesale Lingerie News). Reporting nearly $200 million in apparel sector growth and a sharp rise in textile exports over the past two decades, Colombia’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism is touting the country’s garment and fabric industry, with a particular focus on intimate apparel, swim and activewear segments.
The ministry reports demand from North American importers for swimwear, undergarments and high-performance sportswear, as the country’s manufacturers focus on the latest technology and innovation in fabrication combined with the highest-quality knitwear and fashion-forward designs. Free trade agreements with the United States and Canada facilitate this growth while keeping social, ethical and environmental standards in check.
North America isn’t the only continent benefitting from the Colombian industry. “Today, businesses from more than 33 countries utilize Colombia’s wide range of apparel products and services, and hundreds of new international buyers visit for business each year.”
Colombia annually hosts Colombiamoda, a major fashion expo in Medellin, as well as the International Children’s Fashion Exposition in Bucaramanga.
Additionally, Proexport Colombia — the country’s trade, investment and tourism promotion entity — is scheduled to lead a Business Matchmaking Forum, featuring over 300 Colombian exporters, at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Sept. 4-5, 2013. Information can be found at http://www.proexport.com.co/en.
