For spring 2013, Pretty Polly, the UK hosiery brand, has added a new category of shaping tights, as well as a variety of new styles to its existing leg wear collections. The four new shapers “are contemporary in styling, with super-comfortable 3D waistbands, medium level control with flat seams and cotton gusset,” according to a company statement. The “Tummy Shaper Tights,” “Shaper Short,” “Tum & Bum Shaper Tights” and “Suspender Shaper Tights” (which mimic stockings with garters) all have a recommended retail price of $28.

“The intention is to give performance, with great styling resulting in both inner and outer confidence.” Packaging for the line “will be mini-broadfold and be very distinctive, continuing with our contemporary look, keeping Pretty Polly at the cutting edge of pack design.”

Pretty Polly always makes a point of emphasizing the various designers that provide its inspiration, and for the spring 2013 collections it cites Chanel, Versace, Holly Fulton, Diane von Furstenberg, Moschino and Jason Wu. One interesting new look is front seamed tights (style PNARD9) with a $25 suggested retail price. Also interesting are the “Coloured Suspender and Knicker Tights,” a one-piece garter and black stocking combination that features a section of pink, black, orange and blue bands at mid-thigh (style PNARE3, also $25). And the “Flutterby Tattoo Tights” (style PNARE4) which feature a cloud of butterflies at the ankle, also $25 retail.

For its Curves, plus size collection (which are designed to “fit up to dress size 34 (60’’/152cm hips)” the company has added a “squiggly” patterned tight, a new back seam tight, and a garter-with-hose tight. These have a suggested retail price of $25.

The firm cites Duchess Kate Middleton for “The ‘Kate’ effect” that has “brought new life into” the category of sheer hosiery. “Pretty Polly continues to be synonymous with great sheers, but our range now has a full complement of leg looks to suit every woman for all occasions.” In addition, the firm expects to do well with the hosiery in its Naturals collection utilizing Sideria, composed of nylon and polyurethane yarns, with a suggested retail of $15 for tights and $12 for knee highs.

House of Holland for Pretty Polly for spring/summer 2013 “will be a focused range with only a few designs,” according to the company. In a photographic summary of the collection, created with British designer Henry Holland, the firm showed 17 styles. Several styles featured a bold gingham check, turned on the bias, in such colors as red on white, black on white, black on sheer and navy on white. These come in tights, ankle socks and knee highs. Tights have a suggested retail price of $34 ($13.50 cost).

A recent introduction, for which the company claims success, are Secret Socks, “a super soft modal sock combined with a beautiful quality 20 denier sheer leg. The product looks like a pair of tights with a layered sock on top. The actual product is one-piece which make them really comfortable to wear, no more pulling up of socks. They keep feet warm and cozy which can be great under boots.” These have a suggested retail price of $25.

Pretty Polly is currently sold at such stores as Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Bare Necessities, Dillards, hosieree.com, Largo Drive and many other stores. Pretty Polly is owned by Courtaulds Textiles, which in turn is owned by PD Enterprise Ltd, a Hong Kong-based supplier that purchased Courtaulds from Sara Lee in 2006. Other brands owned by the company include Berlei, Gossard, Aristoc and Elbeo.
