(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to cut 700-800 jobs at its Bentonville, Arkansas corporate headquarters, which employs about 14,000 workers.
According to MarketWatch, the company will cut positions in its real estate, merchandising and marketing units. Additionally, they will only open between 125 and 140 stores this year compared to 166 stores in 2008. The company has stated that they plan to hire "thousands" to work at the new stores, and will expand their apparel unit in New York. This January, Wal-Mart sales rose 1.5 percent.
