(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Nordstrom, Inc. reported net earnings of $127 million, or 59 cents a share, up 7.2 percent from $119 million, or 53 cents a share, in last year’s third quarter.
Same-store sales went up 7.9 percent compared with fiscal 2010, while net sales rose 14.2 percent to $2.38 billion, up from $2.09 billion. Nordstrom Rack net sales jumped 23.6 percent to $101 million, with same-store Rack sales up 6.8 percent. Nordstrom opened two full-line stores and nine Nordstrom Rack locations during the quarter.
The company attributed its third-quarter performance to its ongoing efforts to enhance customers’ shopping experience both in stores and online. In August, Nordstrom added free shipping and returns for all online orders.
Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc. operates 225 stores in 30 states.
