(Filed Under Fashion News). This January, once again a wide assortment of international lingerie and textile wholesalers debuted their latest collections at the Interfiliere and Salon International de la Lingerie shows in Paris in late January.
Both were impacted by the economic recession with attendance markedly down from last year. There were 11,066 total visitors at Interfiliere (January 18-20), down 26 percent from last year's 15,037. 20,254 people attended the Salon International from (January 18-21), down 22 percent from 2008. Highlights included the introduction of business and speed meetings.
The daily "general" fashion show was elegantly presented, as usual, with a vast collection of both women's and men's styles. Of particular note was the special, "Ultra" fashion show (entitled "Gourmandise,") and awards ceremony, held on Monday night, January 19th. Here designers, perhaps in response to the grim financial concerns that have engulfed the industry, sent a series of over-the-top, fun and fantastical creations down the catwalk.
