(Filed Under wholesale Shapewear News). Uniqlo, the quickly expanding retail chain owned by Japan-based Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., has launched its first shapewear products in the United States.
The casual apparel chain, which operates its 36,000-square-foot global flagship store in New York City’s Soho neighborhood, has introduced the seamless Body Shaper short, retailing for $12.90, and matching camisole top, retailing for $19.90 and available in sizes XS to L. According to a company spokesperson, both offer “a non-constricting variable weave so that [they have] a seamless fit and [are] extremely breathable to guarantee the wearer is comfortable.”
According to the spokesperson, this is just the beginning of Uniqlo’s shapewear category. The retailer, which already carries some undergarments for men and women, plans to extend its shapewear offerings next year, and the intimate apparel category as a whole.
Part of Uniqlo’s intimate apparel progression includes building upon its Heattech range of heat-retaining men and women’s camisoles, T-shirts, leggings, socks, leg warmers and other layering clothing. According to Uniqlo, it has sold over 100 million Heattech pieces to date.
In addition to New York City, Uniqlo has global flagship stores in London, Paris, Shanghai and Osaka, Japan’s Shinsaibashi shopping area. Overall, Fast Retailing Co. operates approximately 808 stores worldwide.
