(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). New York City-based CIT Group Inc. announced Wednesday that it has opened an office of Washington D.C. that will be Lon Goldstein, who the financier has named senior vice president and director of governmental relations.
CIT said Goldstein has over 15 years of political and legislative experience. He most recently worked as vice president of governmental relations at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association. Previously, he worked in the government relations offices of Merrill Lynch & Co., T-Mobile USA and CTIA.
In addition to running the new office, Goldstein will oversee public policy initiatives, reporting to Margaret Tutwiler, CIT’s executive vice president and head of communications and government relations. The government relations team will also include vice president Karl Haddeland, and assistant vice president Annette Venezuela.
According to John Thain, chairman and C.E.O of CIT, the company has opened the DC office to take a more active role in public policy issues. “As a leading provider of financing to small businesses and middle market companies, it is important that we take a more active role in the public policy issues affecting these important sectors,” he said. “Having an experienced team located in Washington D.C. will help us forge constructive relationships and an ongoing dialogue with members of congress and the administration.”
