(Filed Under Licensing News). Authentic Brands LLC, an intellectual property corporation that manages the Bob Marley brand, announced last Thursday that it has acquired the rights to the intellectual property of Marilyn Monroe LLC in partnership with NECA, a media and entertainment company.
Anna Strasberg, the administrator of Marilyn Monroe’s estate, will continue as minority partner in the joint venture, Authentic Brands said. Ms. Strasberg is the wife of the late Lee Strasberg, former director of the Actor’s Studio in New York City, where Monroe studied in 1955. Ms. Strasberg was also Monroe’s acting coach.
Authentic Brands and NECA said they expect to enhance Monroe’s legacy through their “unparalleled track record in building brands with the world’s greatest retail, promotional and manufacturing partners.”
Jamie Saltzer, C.E.O of Authentic Brands, told BODY that New York City-based Dreamwear maintains a license to produce Marilyn Monroe lingerie. He added that Authentic Brands plans to extend the Marilyn Monroe license in a variety of categories, particularly apparel, cosmetics, personal care and accessories.
“Marilyn Monroe is recognized around the world as the embodiment of beauty and glamour,” Saltzer said in a statement. “Quite simply, her name and her image have timeless appeal. We feel fortunate to be responsible for the future long-term success of the Marilyn Monroe brand.”
