(Filed Under Fashion News). Kohl’s Corporation announced Tuesday that it is renewing its long-term licensing agreement for Simply Vera by Vera Wang, exclusive to the retailer since 2006.
Through the renewal, Kohl’s remains the only provider and marketer of Simply Vera by Vera Wang merchandise in the United States, a lifestyle line with products including sleepwear; intimates; hosiery and other accessories; apparel; footwear; bedding; bath; handbags; and jewelry. Kohl’s sells bras under this brand for about $32 to $36, while a microfleece pajama set is priced at $48. The company frequently marks down these and other styles.
As part of its exclusive and private brand strategy, Kohl’s also announced that it is introducing cosmetics under Simply Vera by Vera Wang in spring 2012.
In recent years, the retailer has focused on this exclusive and private brand strategy by getting exclusive licenses for designer brands including LC by Lauren Conrad and Candie’s, which is owned by Iconix Group. The company said that these brands accounted for 48 percent of its sales during this year’s third quarter.
“Leveraging the strength of our exclusive and private brand portfolio allows us to broaden our cross category representation of existing brands and continues to differentiate us on the marketplace,” said Kevin Mansell, chairman, president and C.E.O of Kohl’s.
Kohl’s currently operates 1,089 stores in 49 states.
