(Filed Under Fashion News). Hanesbrands Inc. announced yesterday that it has completed the acquisition of licensed logo apparel company GearCo Inc., known on the market as Gear For Sports, for $55 million and the retirement of approximately $172 million of debt.
The company originally disclosed its plans to acquire Gear For Sports, which markets apparel under several brand names, including Hanesbrand’s Champion, in its third quarter results released on October 27. As Hanesbrands reported, Gear For Sports’ sales were approximately $225 million annually. Hanesbrands expects the company to contribute sales of approximately $30 million during the upcoming fourth quarter.
Hanesbrands said this acquisition strengthens the company’s outerwear segment, which posted a 19 percent sales increase during the recent third quarter. “We are very excited to have the strong Gear For Sports operation and management team join Hanesbrands and its powerful global supply chain,” Richard Noll, chairman and C.E.O of Hanesbrands, said. “Together we have tremendous opportunities to drive new growth and take additional market share in the licensed college, resort and golf channels.”
