(Filed Under wholesale Costume News). While Spirit Halloween agrees with Party City on Lady Gagas, vampires and the cast of “The Jersey Shore” saturating the streets this Halloween, the competing costume chain had some conflicting predictions of its own.
Instead of the ‘80’s throwback and goddess lookalikes Party City expects to be popular, Spirit of Halloween projects that costumes based on “Iron Man 2,” “Toy Story 3;” Super Mario and Luigi Nintendo characters; and “Star Wars” will fly off the shelves. The retailer also expects flappers and gangsters, which many retailers listed as popular last season, pirates and Gumby and Pokey throwbacks to be among the most-requested.
“At Spirit Halloween, we strive to deliver the best Halloween to our consumers year after year,” Steven Silverstein, president and C.E.O. of the company, said. “Our experienced team of buyers travels the world to identify the season’s hottest costume trends. This year’s selections are a reflection of consumer style — a combination of cutting edge headlines and familiar retro favorites.”
Spirit Halloween operates just over 850 mall-based locations in North America. Spencer Gifts acquired the chain in 1999.
