(Filed Under Fashion News). According to CurvExpo, the intimate apparel sector is relatively recession-proof; lingerie was the only fashion category that did not decline during 2009. Based on the steadiness of this niche market, the organizing company of the CurveNY and CurveNV Las Vegas shows said it expects success at its fourth annual summer events this August.
The company has not released projections on how many buyers it expects to attend each show; however, it expects 250 brands to exhibit at CurveNY (August 1 through 3), with 40 percent from outside of the United States; and 230 brands to exhibit at CurveNV, (August 16 through 18).
As of June 30, CurvExpo expected 25 new brands to exhibit at CurveNY. According to the company’s website on July 13, that number had grown to 66. Included are well-known labels Liz Claiborne and Juicy Couture, which are both owned by Liz Claiborne, Inc.; boutique-oriented brands like Claridge + King and Jolidon; and men’s brands like Candyman, a costume brand out of Colombia.
For the first time, CurveNV will host a swimwear fashion week, with events spanning from the “So Curve So Swim” runway show, with looks for spring/summer 2011, to the Swim Trends Display hosted by Group Carlin International. As of early July, 50 designer swimwear labels had signed up to exhibit at the show, including Carol Wior; Shan; Andres Sarda; Aerin Rose; Playboy Swimwear; and Marlies Dekkers swimwear. The company expects this list to grow.
