AE 1q Sales Up 8%


(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). American Eagle Outfitters, the parent company of the Aerie intimate apparel concept, cited an 8 percent sales increase during the first quarter ended May 1, 2010, to $659 million from $612 million during last year’s first quarter. Comparable store sales increased 5 percent.

The company opened two Aerie stores and five AE stores during the first quarter, and closed five AE stores. It plans to open nine Aerie stores and 14 AE stores y the end of this year, and close an additional 20 AE stores. As announced in March 2010, the company plans to close all 28 of its MARTIN+OSA stores by the end of the year.
