(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Urban Outfitters, Inc. reported record first quarter earnings of $53 million, or 31 cents per diluted share, for the period ended April 30, 2010. Net sales rose 25 percent, to $480 million.
Comparable retail segment sales, which include the direct-to-consumer channel, rose 16 percent, while comparable store sales increased 11 percent. Comparable retail segment sales at Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain and Urban Outfitters rose 22 percent, 25 percent, 22 percent and 9 percent, respectively. Direct-to-consumer sales jumped 42 percent, while wholesale segment sales rose 4 percent.
“We are delighted to begin the new fiscal year with a series of record-breaking results for the quarter,” Glen T. Senk, chief executive officer of Urban Outfitters, Inc., said. “I believe our ability to deliver this performance within the greater context of our long term goals of investing in store productivity, ecommerce penetration, international expansion and new brands is all the more impressive.”
