(Filed Under Financial and General Interest News). Iconix Brand Group, Inc. has taken ownership of Charlie Brown. Through a definite agreement with United Features Syndicate, Inc. and the E.W. Scripps Company, Iconix has acquired the Peanuts brand and related assets in partnership with the heirs of Charles Schultz, the creator of the Peanuts characters.
Through the agreement, the company has also acquired the licensing and character representation business of United Media Licensing, which represents Dilbert, Fancy Nancy and the Peanuts characters. Iconix and the Schultz family will pay about $175 million, with Iconix purchasing an 80 percent share.
The Peanuts brand—which includes such well-known characters as Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and Peppermint Patty—is licensed in over 40 countries and generates over $2 billion in retail revenue per year.
Iconix did not release any information on what Peanuts products they will be launching, but we at BODY think kid’s underwear and PJs would be an excellent idea.
