Komar Inks Kensie

(Filed Under Licensing News). The Komar Co. will design, manufacture and distribute women’s lingerie, sleepwear and daywear under Kensie, a label owned by Liz Claiborne, Inc, through a recently finalized agreement between the two companies. According to Liz Claiborne, the line will target the 20-something-year-old contemporary customer, and will be available in better department and specialty stores in spring 2011. The Komar Co. plans to introduce it to the market during the August 2010 New York City market weeks.

Included in the sleepwear assortment will be pajamas; nightgowns; nightshirts; robes; and chemises. Lingerie and daywear offerings will consist of bras, camisoles and panties. Currently, Kensie and KensieGirl produce young women’s fashion apparel, primarily consisting of dresses.

“Lingerie, sleepwear and daywear are a great extension to round out the Kensie product offering,” said Eric Karls, president and chief executive officer of Kensie. “The collaboration between Kensie and Komar has results in a women’s lounge and intimates line that is completely complementary to our Kensie apparel collection, with foundation and sleepwear pieces that are comfortable, yet playful, feminine and pretty.”

“We have watched the Kensie brand grow over the years,” commented Greg Holland, president of contemporary brands at Komar. “Lingerie and sleepwear are a natural extension for this wonderful brand. We are very excited to partner with Kensie in this opportunity.”

Kensie is designed and operated by Vancouver-based founders Eric and Lani Karls, who launched Mac & Jac in 1994, followed by Kensie and Kensiegirl. In 2006, Liz Claiborne purchased the brands.
